There are lots of promotion ideas out there that are quite effective. I want to share with you the promotion methods that have worked the best for me. All of these that are listed here are free. I hope they benefit you! 
1) Signature Advertising On Message Forums
Through trial and error, I have found this method of advertising to be #1. Try it for a week and review your results.
Find message forums that relate to your website or business. Create a signature on each board including your website/business links. Be persistant and visit these forums on a daily basis. Don’t just post your advertisement…offer your opinions, advice and reply to the topics you know something about.
Important Note: Always read the posting and signature rules before you start to post on any of the forums. 
Mingle in the forums and get to know other WAHM’s and WAHD’s. This is a great way to network with others.

2) Linking With Other Webmasters/Site Owners
Linking with other site owners that relate to your website is one of the best ways to advertise.
Lots of sites have a link exchange form to fill out. Some do not. For those that don’t, find their “contact us” link or “email” link and simply email the webmaster.
Keep your message short and polite. Tell the recipient a little about your site, then ask if they would be interested in exchanging links. Most site owners will agree to link up with your site.
You can also make a post on message forums that you are looking for link partners.
The most important thing is to get as many site related links on your site as you can…especially the higher ranked sites. This will of course up your site ranking.
3) Directories
Submitting your site to directories…especially the higher ranked ones is yet another great way for your site exposure.
You will find tons of them that are free and tons of them without a reciprical link required.

Article Promotion
Writing articles that relate to your website and submitting them to article directories and websites has found to be another very effective promotion method.
When writing your article, always check it for spelling, punctuation, etc…this is very important in getting click throughs to your website!
At the end of your article, you can have a brief bio about yourself along with your website link.
5) Ezines and Newsletters
Another effective promotion method is subscribing to ezines and/or newsletters. These are the same as online magazines that let you submit your ad weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc…
Most of these you will find free to join. Always keep track of when you are to resubmit your ads. Most of these ezines/newsletters will send you out emails when the time comes to submit a new ad.
6) Offline Advertising
This method of advertising is by far the easiest. While you are out eating, shopping…whatever, talk about your website or business! Be proud of it! Share as much as possible. This method is called “Word Of Mouth.” Try it, it works!
You can also make up your own business cards, flyers, bumper stickets, etc…
You can either make them yourself, or you can have them printed at your local printer shop. This method may cost you just a bit, but it’s well worth it.
Give your business cards to your friends, co-workers, relatives, people you run into at the store. Wherever you get a chance, pass that business card onto others!
Post those flyers onto billboards at your local grocery stores, churches, libraries, schools, theatres,…any place that will let you post them.
The most important thing about offline advertising is creativity. I’m sure if you think about it, you can come up with some creative ways to advertise offline. Like they say, “The Sky’s The Limit”
7) Start A Free Blog
Start a free blog…there are several free blogging sites such as http://www.blogger.com. You can also do a search for “free blogger sites”
Blogging has become one of the best marketing tools on the Internet today. If you decide to start blogging, base it around your websites or businesses. Include postings about your websites or businesses and always provide links to them.
