Work at Home Set Goals to Succeed

By: Matthew Soucie

Everyone wants to succeed when they begin working at home. Sadly, this is not always the case. In order to work at home and succeed, you need to have goals in place.

For a beginner, goals such as I want to make half a million dollars this year is unrealistic. Beginners need to set goals that are attainable within a short period of time. One example of this is, create two web pages a day for the next month. At the end of the month you would have 60 new pages added to your website. Maybe you work at home doing paid surveys. Make it a goal to complete 5 surveys a day.

Like going to the gym, if your goal is too large in the beginning you will give up before you reach it. The reason for that is, you never see the small gains you make on your way to the end goal.

Setting goals when you work at home is an important aspect to being successful. How else will you be able to measure the amount of work you get done?

Instead of saying you are going to spend two hours researching, writing articles , or adding content to your site you should set a more measurable goal. When you work you want to accomplish stuff.

An example of my daily goals are as follows:

- Write 10 articles

- Add two new pages to my sites

- Make a blog post

- spend 1 hour in forums researching

- spend no more than 1 hour researching a specific niche topic

As you can see, that is just one example of how I spent one day working at home. After I finished the actual content then I did research for the next days content.

By doing this you continually add to your ability to succeed. Again this is just one example. My daily goals do change but all in all, I follow a rotation of goals throughout the week that in 1 month’s time will give me considerable accomplishments.

In the beginning you may not see monetary gain at first but give it six months, All of your small goals will put you further ahead than if you just had one large 6 month goal.

Top 5 Reasons to Work at Home

By: Trent Brownrigg

The amount of people deciding to work at home has been on the rise for years and it increases much more with each new year. There’s about a million reasons why you many want, or need, to work at home but here are five of the top reasons I have heard people give for deciding to work at home…

1) Gas Prices - It’s no secret to anyone with a car that the gas prices these days are ridiculously high. When you have to commute an hour to work each way, you can go broke just paying for gas. If you work at home you don’t have to worry about paying for gas just to get to work.

2) Pay Yourself - You aren’t limited by an hourly wage or yearly salary. The amount of money you make rests almost entirely within yourself and you can virtually write your own checks. With all the ways there are to make money online, you can do many things to make a living working at home and there are few limitations on the size of the income you can earn.

3) Freedom - When you work at home you have the freedom of working a schedule that you set. Don’t like to get up early? Fine just start working later in the day. Want to go to the beach today? Just pack your lap top and get some work done while soaking in the sun.

4) Family - One of the best benefits of working at home is that you get to spend much more time with your family. You aren’t away all day or night working at the office. You can finally have the quality time you have always wanted with your family.

5) Necessity - There are plenty of reasons why it is simply necessary to work at home. Maybe you have a disability that prevents you from going to a regular job. You might have to be at home to take care of the kids. It’s possible there aren’t any good jobs in your area. Or any of about a thousand other reasons why it is necessary for you to work at home.

That is by no means and exhaustive list of the reasons for working at home. There are countless reasons why working at home might be for you and it’s possible that none of your reasons are even on the above list. That’s ok. We each have our own reasons for doing things. What’s important is that you have made the decision to improve your quality of life and start doing something that you enjoy!

So What is it About Working From Home?

Working from home, Entrepeneur, home-based business… You hear alot of hype about working from home. It all sounds glamorous and easy to do. But it’s much harder than one thinks.

There’s alot to consider :

1) Before I even speak in detail with someone, I ask them “WHY”. Why do you want to work from home? This is very important for me to know. If you don’t have a defined “why” you want to work at home, odds are you will not succeed in working at home. Your reason to work at home HAS to be stronger than your reason not to. There has to be drive, determination and persistence. Without it, you will not succeed.

2) Determine if you are looking to work from home full time or part time. Not all work at home opportunities are full time. So make sure that the company you are looking into can accommodate your desired hours of work.

3) When looking into companies that you are considering to work for, check the BBB (better business bureau) on each company. But here’s the thing. You need to know what state that company is located in. And then you call the BBB in that state. I have heard a few people tell me that they called the BBB in the state that they live in, not the state that the company is located in. And they were given incorrect information. The BBB has the ability to make or break a company.

Key items to check on when contacting the BBB:

A) How long has the company been in business?
B) Has the company previously been under a different name? If yes, I suggest staying away. There’s a reason.
C) Has the company filed bankruptcy before?
D) Has the company growth continuously grown positive?
E) Has the company moved around?
F) Has the company had the same phone number and for how long?

*** Understand this… It is impossible for a company to make every person happy. And if a company should have some negative feedback, how can you say that it’s the fault of the company? What if someone worked for “company A” but did not have the drive, determination, skills, ability, time… What if life just got in the way and that person gave up on the company. Now this person is going to leave negative feedback on “company A”, when it was not the companies fault. ***

4) Depending on the business that you are working, you will want to make sure that you have the main necessities. Computer, printer, fax, (there is a online fax service available), copier, highlighters (great for color coding procedures), business cards, paper, notebooks, daily planner, monthly whiteboard with erasable markers, promotional items, and the list goes on and on.

5) Create a work schedule and stick with it. Designate the time you want to work your business and write it down. Let everyone know that this is when you will be working and treat it as that, (work). Now believe me, I know this can be difficult. Especially if you are a single parent and you have younger children. You may only be able to work 20 minutes here, 15 minutes there….. But it will become routine. And I believe in letting my kids help me out as well as setting time aside just for my kids. This is definitely give and take for everyone involved.

6) Stay focused and motivated. Knows your “WHY”.

7) Create a goal chart and hang it above your work area. That way you can see it everyday. I picked up a poster board. I used one half of the board and wrote down the goals that I have and the date that they will be achieved. Then on the right side of the poster board, I have pictures cut out and pasted on the board. If you are a visual person, this is great…. Maybe you have your dream house, washer and dryer, a certain landscaped lawn, a car, a picture of the ocean…. Whatever you desire, find a picture of it and put it up on your board.

8) Utilize all the tools that are available for your business. Don’t limit yourself. Dip into everything your company has… Become an asset.

9) If you have to talk on the phone, STAND UP….. Take posture. Don’t sit and slouch because that does come through over the phone.

10) Keep yourself in check. This is your company. Would you hire or fire yourself? Would you want to work with someone like yourself ?

My Work At Home Testimony

By: Tammy Embrich

First of all…let me just say you can honestly make money online. It is a real possibility…and there are lots of opportunities available to you. It’s just a matter of knowing what you would like to do.

I started searching for a work at home job as additional income from my brick and mortar job back in 1999. I was working full time as a floral designer. I enjoyed it, but I was hoping to supplement my income. Unfortunately, I had stumbled upon a couple of those ad typing schemes, and yes, fell for them…just like many others have done. I was totally unaware of the whole concept of it all. I did however, finally learn my lesson.

The sad part of it is…a lot of these scammers are still getting away with it! Many of them have been shut down by the FTC–Federal Trade Commision. But, new ones keep coming up everyday.

I want to take this opportunity to warn people that are searching for honest work they can do from home. These (so called) home typing jobs, ad placing schemes, data entry jobs, or whatever you want to call them are all scams. They charge you for your registration just so you can place ads all over the Internet to get people to join in to do the very same thing. Never pay for a work at home job. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule.

Example 1: For a customer service job, a lot of the time, you are required to purchase a headset in order to do the job.

Example 2: For a transcription job, you are most likely required to purchase a foot pedal to do the job.

Example 3: Sometimes you are required to pay a small fee for a background check.

These are all normal fees and come from legitimate work from home companies.

Other than the above examples…you should not have to pay for working at home. If there are other charges, then most likely, they are scams. Stay away from them.

Beyond my search for additional income, I have made a fair amount of cash on a select few of some affiliate programs. I have also met some great online friends along the way.

Throughout my endeavors, I realized I had to take this work at home situation a little more seriously. My Mother was diagnosed with cancer and I had to quit my job in order to take her back and forth to her chemo therapy treatments and to her doctor appointments. During this time, I had decided to start a website of my own. An online friend helped me get it set up. I have learned a great deal since then and have enjoyed every minute of it.

I quickly discovered that I could earn money with my website through Google Adsense, advertising space, and affiliate programs. I also discovered that there were real telecommute jobs that you could do online. Customer service, transcription, admin assistant, and the like.

This is where I found my niche. I could finally offer something viable to the work at home job searcher. Ironically, job leads such as these that are offered on both my work from home websites is what I’ve been searching for all these years…an honest way to earn an income from home.

But, I was already earning some income with my website. I was enjoying keeping it updated and adding new things to it. So, I made a choice…I decided to stick with my website and continue to offer the public job leads, business articles, business tips, and more.

There have been many ups and downs and many times I’ve come real close to giving it all up. A lot of people have given me some sarcastic remarks…even members of my own family (including my husband). But, I’ve learned so much by trial and error about marketing and I know what works and what doesn’t work for me.

“Work at home jobs” is one of the most searched out phrases people search for on the Internet. Home jobs are in big demand, and I believe they will be for a long time to come. I’m witnessing more and more Mothers as well as Fathers working from home today. The greatest benefit is of course being able to be at home with your family, and especially your children.

I feel good about what is offered on my sites. And the really awesome part about it all, I enjoy it.

And now, even my husband gives me his full support at what I do. No more laughing, no more remarks…as he finally saw what kind of income can be made online.

If you’ve been wanting to work from home, the truth is, you can! There are many, many options available to you. You can find telecommute jobs, affiliate programs, blogging jobs, and still more. You can even start your own online business. Consider these options carefully and make for sure you choose something that you will enjoy doing for the long run. Your success depends on it.

Work At Home Job Or Work At Home Business…What To Do?

By: Tammy Embrich

If you’re new to the World Wide Web, then this can be an overwhelming choice for you to make.

First of all…you need to to be aware upfront, the differences of a work at home job and a work at home business. All too often newbie Internet surfers that want to work from home does not distinguish between the two. Let me tell you…there is a significant difference! And I think it should be addressed. But, I’ll get to that in a bit.

Everyday I see individuals on forums that are desperately searching for a way to earn money from home. And when they are asked what they would be interested in pursuing, they don’t have a clue…except that they want to earn “instant cash.”

Well, the hard truth is there is no such thing as “earning instant cash” online. If there were, everyone would be following suit.

Right? Hopefully the above statement gets a unanimous vote. You can search all you want, and you won’t find such an opportunity.

So now, let’s explore the differences of a “job” and a “home business” and the fees involved.

A “job” is when you are hired by an employer or company to perform specific duties in return for a set hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly wage. Usually you are required to have specific skills and/or experience, and will be asked to supply a resume. Routinely, an interview will follow to determine if you are fit for the job.

Sometimes you will find a position where there is no experience required. And you will be trained or you will have to take an online test. It all depends on the employer or company.

There should not be any fees required for a job…except for a few instances.

For example: Sometimes a headset is required for customer service positions. Or, a foot pedal is required for transcription positions. Also, there may be a background check with a minimal fee attached. These fees are all normal and necessary in order to acquire the requested position. You are paid as long as you complete the job to the employer’s expectations and satisfaction.

Here are some examples of online jobs:

1. Customer Service

2. Data Entry

3. Admin Assistant

4. Transcription/Medical Transcription

5. Tutoring

6. Blogging or Writing Jobs

A “home business” is a whole other situation…

With a “home business”…your success depends on sales. And for the most part, it takes a lot of patience, motivation, and hard work, as well as initial fees to get one set up and get off the ground. The fee amounts will depend on your particular situation and needs.

Here are some examples of home businesses:

1. You may have a particular craft skill and desire to sell products created by you.

2. You may have a passion for scrapbooking and wish to start a scrapbooking business.

3. You may have graphic design skills and would like to start a business in graphic design.

4. You love web design and have the required skills to start a web design business.

5. You may want to become an associate or a distributor for businesses such as, Watkins, Tupperware, Avon, Ameriplan, etc.

There are many options available to you…the possibilities are substantially endless.

However, there will be various factors you will need to take into consideration:

Do you have the readily available funds to start and run your business?

Do you have the funds for purchasing the appropriate insurance (if needed, it may not be required for your particular situation)?

Do you have the knowledge of web design for creating a website?

How do you intend on promoting your business?

As you can see, there are lots of variables there for you to think about.

With a business, you MUST have a passion for the products/services you promote and sell. If you don’t love what you are doing, then it’s highly unlikely that you will succeed.

Bottom line:

With a home “job” you are an employee and are paid set wages for performing specific duties.

With a home “business” you are paid for the products or services you promote and sell.

With either option, there are good possibilities of earning an income from home.

So now, you have an important decision to make for yourself. You need to determine what it is you would really like to do and would also continue to enjoy doing. Weigh in the variables, make an informed decision, and go for it!

Whatever decision you make, I wish you much success.
