Work at Home Moms: You Have Lots of Good Options

It sounds great, doesn’t it? Working from home…ahhhh. But where to start? There are actually many ways to work from home, and if you are just starting your search get ready for a smorgasbord of choices! Whether you choose to do something on the computer, or something in your local area, you have lots to choose from.

EBay is a very popular way to make money from home. You can sell items you have around the house that you are no longer using, clothes your children have grown out of, or you can sell things you have made. But you don’t have to stop there. Many women make great money by picking up items at yard sales and thrift stores for pennies on the dollar, which you can sell for a good profit online!

Another way to make money with eBay is to help people who may not be as computer literate as you or maybe they just don’t have time to list their own auctions. You can make good money as an “auction specialist”. To do this, you can take pictures of items other people want to sell on eBay, post the auctions and take care of shipping the item to the buyer. You earn a commission plus a percentage of the sales price.

Maybe you’ve got a secretarial background. If so you can find work online as a virtual assistant. The job duties can be varied, including answering emails, making phone calls, maintaining websites, data entry, and more. There are even certification programs for virtual assistants, which gives you extra credentials. To earn even more, if you’re good at designing websites, there is a constant need for that, as well as graphic design.

Do you like to write? A copywriter (also known as ghostwriter) can make money by writing articles, sales letters, advertising copy and more for internet marketers. This is an art as well as a science and there are excellent home study courses to put you in top shape with these skills.

Maybe you’d rather do something local and not necessarily online. Home-based daycares can be lucrative, and handy if you’re already home with your own little ones. If you love to organize and clean, you can set up a home business as professional organizer and get paid to clean out other people’s closets, attics, garages, etc. Are your kids all in school? You can make good money by providing errand services on an hourly basis during school hours. Along the same lines, maybe you’re good at organizing events. These can be events for people, such as parties and weddings; or you can organize events for businesses such as meetings, luncheons, and even business expos.

Direct sales is another popular option and has something for everyone, no matter what you like to do. Cooking, scrapbooking, children’s books, candles? Get out one or two nights a week and have some fun and earn money at the same time. Some of the companies allow you to sell these items online as well as in the traditional “party” setting.

The possibilities for working at home are as varied as you are. Think about what appeals to you, something that you could stay motivated at and do well, ask lots of questions, and you will find exactly the right thing for your own situation.

Top Work At Home Challenges…Tips and Options

By: Tammy Embrich

You’ve found the perfect work at home job. You will at last…save big on fuel prices, be at home for your children, and come and go as you please.

The above are just a few benefits of working from home. But, have you thought about the challenges? Hmm…are there really challenges? You bet! Listed below are the top three.

Keeping Your Office and House Space Separate

One of the biggest and most important challenges of working at home is keeping your office space and home space separate. You will still have laundry to do, meals to prepare, and beds to make. It’s so very important to map out a workable schedule for your work at home duties and your household chores.

It’s important to create your own office space…wether it be a whole room or a portion of a room. Create this area specifically for doing your work at home duties. Make sure your family knows this is YOUR work space and make them understand they should treat it as such. Make up a schedule for when you will be doing your work at home tasks and when you will be doing your household duties.

If you have children that are old enough to share in running the household…this would be a great help. Get them involved around the home. They will benefit much by learning from it.

Children and Family Time

Of course one of the biggest reasons for deciding to work from home in the first place is spending more time with your children and family. But, sometimes that can be much easier said than done…especially if you have young children at home with you during the day. Homeworkers that have school-age children have an advantage. They are able to get quite a bit accomplished while the children are at school. While homeworkers that have young children under-foot…arrangements and or schedules have to be made that will work for them.

If you have young children at home and they take naps during the day…this would be an ideal time for you to get some of your work completed. If your children are the type that constantly needs entertaining or needs to be looked after, you can also choose to do most of your work after they are in bed for the night. Of course, this would depend on your particular work situation.

One option that some homeworkers choose is hiring a nanny to come to the home. Some homeworkers are lucky enough to have a spouse that would be available during work time, or perhaps an older sibling.

Family time can also be a challenge. Working out a daily or weekly schedule just for family time is very important. If it’s feasible for meal time to be on the schedule…if you have the option to have everyone together at this time, that would be some good quality family time. Get the whole family involved in the meal planning and preparation. However, in some cases, older siblings are not always available during meal time due to other activities.

Schedule your work at home business around your family. Try and schedule weekends off from your home business for more family time. You can also reserve a special night of the week just for family activities.

Taking You Seriously

This has been a big challenge for me with my business. There’s just something about the phrase “work at home” that makes some people frown. They think that if you don’t work outside the home…then it’s not a “real job.”

Here is one example:

I’ve heard my brother call my job a “nice cushiony work at home job.” Those were his exact words. We were discussing finding time to take care of some things for my Father and he stated that he and my sister didn’t have time because they both work. Well…of course I spoke up and said, “I work too.” He replied, “Yes, but you have a nice cushiony work at home job” and laughed.

Personally, I’d have to say…”not taking me serious” has been my biggest challenge. It has gotten easier, but in the past…there have been some mighty heated debates.

If it is your desire to work at home…remember, it’s not always an ideal situation. Although there are truly many benefits, but there are always important things to consider and plan for.

By: Jeff Casmer

Thinking about your work at home opportunity, how much success have you had?

Do you feel as if your work at home opportunity is not meeting your emotional and financial needs. Do you feel stressed about whether or not to continue?

If so, you are not alone. In fact, 80 percent of those who work at home are dissatisfied. Their jobs do not meet their needs and they are no more financially free than when they began.

Work at home opportunities can be misleading at times. In that, they make you feel as if all your problems will disappear once you start. However, in 99 percent of cases the worker has made the mistake of participating in a work at home opportunity that is unsuitable for them.

It is not uneasy to choose the wrong work at home opportunity; with so many options one can easily become confused and overwhelmed, and make the choice simply to get the task over with. However, if you want to be among the 20 percent who are happy and successful in their work at home jobs then you must carefully consider your needs before you begin.

Consider if your work at home opportunity is too demanding for your lifestyle? Do you have enough hours in the day to make it profitable? If not you may want to take on something that requires less attention.

Is your work at home opportunity compatible with your skills set? Many people do not have the built in or learned skills to make their jobs successful. You may need to upgrade your skills in order to keep up with your competition.

Does your work at home opportunity offer enough mental stimulation? If you’re bored with your job, you won’t be able to bring enough enthusiasm into it to make it successful. You either need to find one that creates a sense of excitement in you, or find a way to revive your interest.

Do you feel depressed because you are not able to socialize as much as you did in your offline job? If so, you may need to choose a work at home job that lets you network regularly with others so you don’t feel so closed off from the rest of world. Or find out how you can incorporate some form of social communication into your work at home opportunity.

The problem is never money. If you find something that you like to do, works with your lifestyle, and feel enthused about so you can hone the skills needed to effectively do the job, you will inevitably be financially successful. Do not run from your work at home opportunity simply because you are not yet a millionaire. It’s not the work at home job; it’s that you may not be compatible with the job.

Looking for a work at home opportunity is no different than looking for an offline job. It needs to meet your needs. It has to work with your schedule. You have to be competent to do it. And it should make you happy.

If you are seriously struggling in your work at home opportunity you may want to consider a new one, or consider taking on a coach that can help you through areas that you find difficult.

Declutter and Organize Your Home Office For Success

By: Tammy Embrich

Is your work at home office space organized? Is your desk neat and tidy? Can you find specific business documents on your computer with ease?

Or…Are you completely distracted by the mess in front of you as you work? Are you overwhelmed with that home desk clutter?!

If you answered “no” to the first three questions and “yes” to the last two…you need a work at home office space overhaul. For some people, it is normal to have three or four stacks of paperwork scattered on top their desk.

While for others, those stacks of papers are a real eyesore! A messy, unorganized work area often makes you distracted and unfocused. It is a well-known fact that an organized home office always results in a more productive home business. That same organized work area also saves time and money.

For Example:

If you’re wasting time constantly searching your computer for lost documents, doesn’t this cost you time and money? The same goes for searching for that one piece of paper among the endless disorderly accumulation displayed in front of you.

So, wouldn’t you much rather have a nice, organized home office with everything in it’s place? Of course you would!

Unless…stacks of paper, lost documents on your desktop, and mounds of notes cluttering your desk is your cup of tea.

Below are just a few organization tips for your home business office:

1. If you don’t own a file cabinet, it’s best to invest in one. Obtain a good filing system. Keep a drawer for your household items and a drawer for your home business items. Always keep household and business separate.

2. Keep a business-to-do list on your desk at all times. Follow that list each and everyday, checking off tasks as they are completed. Make a list and stick to it.

3. Keep your files and documents in order on your desk top with their appropriate labels for ease of searching.

4. Set specific business hours. Set aside this time for your home business. Also set a specific time to do your household work. Sure, there will always be things that will come up…you have to run to the store and get milk, or you have to run to the vet. Always get right back on your schedule after these home chores are completed. No exceptions!

5. Look around your office. Is there anything on your desk, in your drawers, or up on a shelf that you don’t have any use for anymore? If so, throw it out. Pitch anything you don’t need or use. Why keep your work area cluttered with useless items?

6. Throw away junk mail immediately. Always keep a trash can by your desk.

7. You will always have a need for office supplies. But these items take up a lot of space. Invest in some drawer dividers for various different sized items. You can purchase drawer organizers at any office supply store. The idea is to declutter. And again, always throw out things you don’t need.

8. If you’re confined to a very small work area, you might consider purchasing a laptop. Laptops are getting cheaper by the dozen and they often come with good deals with rebates. Shop around, you may be surprised at what you can find.

Clutter doesn’t have to completely destroy your day or your business. Take action and get organized. Don’t put it off any longer, do it today! With some effort and a little creativity, you can have a more efficient work space.

Work At Home…Ideas And Opportunities

By: Tammy Embrich

Have you given up on finding a work at home job? Do you think you’ve exhausted all the opportunities? Have you thrown in the towel?

I frequently see members of work at home forums that have pretty much given up all hope in finding their dream to work from home. As I read these messages, I can almost see the cry of despare leaping off the pages.

This brings me to the reason for writing on this topic today. Maybe you really haven’t explored all of the ideas and opportunities. How many options are there?

There are several ways you can work from home, even if you don’t have any experience. Don’t panic! The possibilities are really endless. Work at home potential is becoming more and more evident in today’s society.

Listed below are ten ways you can make money from home. Granted…not all of these options will yield instant profit. Some of these will take some time, patience, and motivation to see yourself “in the black.”

1. Affiliate Programs
Affiliate programs are where you are paid a commission for selling someone else’s products. These programs literally clutter the Internet. They are not difficult to find and promote. With some of them, you also earn for referring other members.

2. MLM
MLM stands for multi-level marketing. There is much controversy over this option. A lot of folks have had some heavy, heated debates over MLM. Oftentimes, it is difficult to choose the legitimate ones over the scams. A lot of them are merely pyramid schemes and are not sustainable. The Federal Trade Commission offers advice for potential MLM members to help them identify those which are likely to be pyramids.

With multi-level marketing, you as a distributor would earn commissions off of your sale efforts as well as the efforts of your downline (the people that join under you). With MLM, it is imperative to have an active downline…the more members in your downline, the more you will earn. Use caution when considering this money-making option. Spend the extra time to do some research.

3. Home Business
Do you wish to start a home business or join a home business? Home business means selling. You could join perhaps Watkins, Tupperware, or Avon. This is definitely one of the options where you will not see instant profits. But, there are many online business owners who are and have experienced big success. The secret is loving what you do and having a passion for your products. That’s what it takes to sell.

You can do this too. Maybe you love scrapbooking or jewelry making. There you go…start a business with it. This option just takes a little bit of time to get established. Also, you will need to determine if you have the time and money to invest. There are tons of ideas, put your thinking cap on.

4. Telecommute Jobs
A telecommute job, or work at home job is where you are hired by an employer of a legitimate company to perform a specific job for a set wage. Among these job types are customer service, transcription, data entry, admin assistant, and others. You will find these companies easily by searching on Google, job boards, and message boards.

5. Get Paid To Offer A Service
Do you have graphic designer skills? Do you have skills in web design? Perhpas you have skills with designing greeting cards. The list could go on and on.

These are all services that you can be paid for. You can set up a website and sell your services. Many are doing this and are very successful with it.

6. Writing
There are many writing opportunities online. There are websites where you can get paid for just writing articles.

Many site and blog owners are looking for writers to write content for them. They simply don’t have the time to do it themselves so they rely on outsourcing. There are also people or businesses that require freelance writers or ghost writers. If you’re exceptionally good at writing, you stand a chance at getting paid for writing short stories, or maybe even books.

7. Paid Blogging
You may be surprised at how many blog owners who would be willing to pay you for writing blog entries. If you like to write and blog, then this would be a good fit for you. Go for it! Blogs are becoming more popular on the Internet today. Also, many are converting their websites over to blogs.

8. Paid Surveys
I hear of many people having success with doing paid surveys everyday. They are sometimes time-consuming and you need to be selective in choosing the right ones. The rule of thumb with paid surveys is, refrain from joining ones that charge a fee. There are many free ones out there.

9. Paid To Read Emails
There is much controversy over this option as well. But the truth is, there really are legitimate paid to read sites that you can make some money with…if this is what you choose to do. Join several different sites and be consistent. Generally, you won’t get rich reading emails, but you can make a nice handful of cash.

10. Selling Goods/Products on eBay And Craigslist
Do you have products to sell? Do you have items around your home that you simply don’t need or have use for anymore? Old records, home decor, jewelry. It could be anything. This could be some easy, fast income for you.

Well, there you have it. Ten ways you can make money at home. Think carefully and always do your resarch, then you will be able to make a well informed decision. I wish you much success!
