Blogging For Your Business - How To Write A Business Blog

By: Connie Ragen Green

Blogging for your business or for your niche market is a way to start a conversation with your readers and keep it moving. But keeping your blog posts fresh, interesting, informative and frequent can be a real challenge.

Before you make more than one or two posts to your blog, write down a list of topics that you will cover. You may have many ideas on what to write that readers will want to read, so keep a journal of topics and ideas that you can draw from. You will also want to read other blogs on topics that are similar to yours. You should actually read and comment on several blogs regularly to truly become part of the blogosphere.

Having a series of blog posts on one topic may make your readers more likely to sign up for your feed (your RSS feed) and come back to your blog often. A series of tips is a good way to show your readers that you have thought out what you are going to write about. You may also want to offer them a PDF file of all of your tips that they can easily download from your blog.

Make every effort to post to your blog twice a week. Even if you only write one paragraph, it is better to post more frequently. This will help both readers and search engines to find you more easily and get your name and message in front of more people. Adding pictures will also make your blog more interesting. Make sure you use royalty and copyright free photos. Blogging can boost your business tremendously if you stick to it and always give your readers good information.

Blogs: A Part of the Modern Life

Imagine a place where you are allowed to speak your mind freely. Imagine that everyone else listened intently and nodded rhythmically in agreement with every word that was spoken. It is this fantasy that has fueled internet users all over the world to start posting blog entries on every subject imaginable. With the help of free sites such as Myspace(www.myspace.com), Livejournal(www.livejournal.com), and Deadjournal(www.deadjournal.com) there are now millions of blogs maintained in the United States alone. There seems to be no decline in this trend. The blog is one trend that may not be going anywhere for a while.

There are quite a few bloggers out there making quite a name for them selves and not doing anything more than typing out a few opinions or in the case of the vlogger, video recording those opinions. It is becoming a daily routine for people to write in their blogs just as someone might write in a journal or diary. It has not caught on completely but the statistics are pretty impressive with 12 million Americans keeping blogs as a Jan 2006 study states.

Blogs started to rise in popularity just in the last few years but got their start in the late 90s. The first blogs were online journals started by individuals just keeping track of their lives and sharing them over the internet. This was a harmless hobby that very few participated in. It did not stay that way for long. Now there are news groups, public figures, celebrities, and people from all walks of life that have skipped over the pen and paper and gone straight to the keyboard to log about the many facets(or not) of their lives.

The internet has made a completely new form of media/entertainment in our recent history. This development opened the door for a new type of celebrity (as if we needed more of those), the internet celebrity. Many a new face came forth from our computer monitors with the development of the blog and it’s offspring, the video log, or vlog. A good example of a popular vlogger is the, Oh so popular, Chris Crocker, who can be found in all of his highly emotional glory on Youtube.com ranting in defense of the falling star, Britney Spears.

When we are not distracted by the over exposure of internet celebrities, some of us use blogs in a more productive sense. I am speaking from experience when I say that blogs can be an excellent creative outlet. Blogs are not exclusively used as online diaries. One of the great wonders of blogs is that they start as a completely blank canvas for the blogger. Using handy html coding; pictures, videos, and music can be added to any blog page maximizing personal expression.

Of course, like most things, blogs are not exclusive to being a benefit to society. With more computer literate kids than years before we are seeing a higher number of young users being exposed to and creating blogs of their own. This can be especially hazardous with the prowling eyes of cyber stalkers hiding among the massive internet community. Then again with crime fighting blogs like Crime Blog, The True Crime Weblog, and Bonnie’s Blog of Crime it seems that the crime fighting is on pace with the criminals. Still, the preventative measures of parents are the first defense to such internet hazards.

These days many of us are spending more and more time in front of our computers. Since you are sitting there anyway, why not type up what you did today. Throw in some dreams, aspirations, opinions on major issues of our day and you have just created a blog. A blog could be a pretty useful tool in keeping all your friends and family in touch with your daily life. Computers are becoming more and more a part of our lives, this is just one more evolutionary step in the life of technology.

Blog Tagging. What’s This New Game All About?

By: Lance Brown

In addition to writing articles and participating in forums it seems I have stumbled on to this fun new way of generating back links to your site. I don’t know who came up with this or who started this game but it seems to me the possiblities are endless. I thought I should write an article about it.
The game is called “blog tagging.” Here is how you play the game:

You find 5 blogs of similar interest or content as yours and then post a comment to them saying ” you have been tagged ” with a link back to your site. Getting response shouldn’t be hard as people like games if there is something in it for them. At your site you have an explanation something along these lines:

Blog Tagging. What’s It All About?

Ok. Maria did this tagging thing with me. She doesn’t know either who started the game, but it’s a fun and creative way to get links back to your blog. If you get tagged, expect to write a post giving your reasons for blogging, include a link back to the person who tagged you, then tag 5 other bloggers. Personally I blog to get readers to my site and to build friendships. I hope you respond to this tag game.

You’ll notice above I mentioned the person who introduced me to the game. Mentioning their name adds a nice personal touch. You must hyperlink this person’s blog in the text of your explanation. This is easily done in the back office of your blog where you edit your posts. When you write the post you will need to click on compose and then highlight the words you want to hyperlink. In this case it is the name Maria I highlight. Another box will come up where you put in their blog link to their site. Presto! You have followed the rules and finished your explanation of the game.

If you do the math on this you will have a least 25 links to your site for every 5 people you tag. Imagine what would happen if you tagged 2 or 3 people a week for a year. That’s right. Hundreds of back links to your site which the search engines will pick up on where people will be able to find your site.

It occurs to me one can change the topic of the game too. Instead of it being why you blog it could be ” lessons you have learned on the internet ” or ” favorite hobbies ” or ” celebrities I don’t like ” or…well you get my drift. Whatever gets people to respond to your tag. You are limited only by your imagination here.

As anything else you will have to spend a little time checking out other blogs and finding people with similar blog topics as yours. I don’t need to mention blog traffic exchanges but just in case you don’t know about them blogsoldiers is a good place to start. There are many others though. Spend some time with Blogger or Wordpress reading other blogs. It’s all about community isn’t it?

I did a little research on the internet to see if anyone had written an article about this game. I couldn’t find much. It may be absolutely new and fresh. Or it may be I am behind the times and this has been around for awhile. I do expect people will see the benefit of this game and run with it. We’ll probably start to see a rash of blog tagging topics. You may want to start your own tag game now. You can use me and my blog as the person who referred you if you want. Much appreciated if you do. I think it is best to keep the game simple and easy to duplicate. Happy blog tagging. I invite your comments and opinions on this topic.

Blogging: A Beginners Guide

By: Art-Luff

A blog is an online journal usually a single page that you can post practically anything that you want. The simplicity of blogs is what makes it attractive to the new person coming online and has no html experience and no website. Blogging makes it possible for an individual to go live on the web within minutes of setting up his or her blog.

There are numerous blogging websites to choose from on the net. This give first time users the option of joining a blogging community that appeals to their interests.

Experts predict that blogs will eventually take the place of conventional websites because of their simplicity and virtually no maintainence.

Features like audio and video blogging make for added appeal as well as the ability to add mp3’s sometimes referred to as Blog Radio.

In its basic form a blog contains these features:
* title- pretty self explanatory-this is what your post is about.
* body- this is whatever it is you want to say.
* trackback- whenever another blog or website puts the url of your blog on their site, this is called a trackback.
* permanent link- every post you write has a URL.
* comments- this allow readers to respond to your blog post.

Another advantage of blogging, is that there are only a few templates to chose from. This eliminates the complexities of numerous individual pages. Making it easier for blog users to create new pages, as it already has fixed settings that include: slots for title, body of the post, category, etc. This is especially useful for first time users, since they can start blogging right away. They can chose from a number of templates that blogging websites provide. Anyone who wants to start a blog can do so by becoming a member of a blogging website of their choice. Once they’ve become members, they automatically become a part of that particular blogging community. They can browse through other bloggers pages, and link them back to their own blogs. They can also make comments on other members’ blogs.

Some of the more popular blogging sites are:(These are Free to join)

“Blogger” http://blogger.com/

“eBay Blogs” http://blogs.ebay.com/

Blogging has evolved into more than for personal use. There are theme based blogs that follow social topics, sports, politics, philosophy, the list goes on. Blogging becomes a tool that people can share what they know and what they think about a variety of themes and topics. Blogging is popular all over the world. There are no rules when it comes to blogging. Bloggers have the freedom to express themselves how ever way they want, and the best thing about blogging, is that most blogging sites are free.

Just search any blogging directory and you’d get a listing of a lot of blogging sites that are available on the net. It’s easy to search a blogging directory, because it is organized according to category. This way you would get exactly what you are after. Blogging is really for everyone. It is fun, simple and easy.

Blogs have become an advertising medium. Where entrepreneurs advertise a variety of goods and services, fast becoming an effective form of advertising. Getting traffic to your blog can be alot easier than getting traffic to a conventional website. A lot of entrepreneurs benefit from blogging by promoting their businesses on their blogs, with millions and millions of people logging onto the net everyday, blogging has become a lucrative move. Some bloggers who run online businesses promote their merchandise online. While others profit through advertisement.

Since all posts are archived, educators use blogs to document lessons. This gives students, who may have missed a lesson or two, the ability to access those lessons and easily catch up with their assignments.

But by far, the most popular blog type is the one that takes the form of a personal journal. This is the kind that is usually used by first time bloggers. Individuals who want to document the daily struggle of their everyday lives, poems, rants, opinions, find that blogging offers them a medium in which to express themselves.

Bloggers usually communicate within themselves. This is one of the appeals of blogging. It creates a community of people sharing their ideas, thoughts, and comments with each other.

Blogs varying in topics, themes, and set-ups, can be found in blog directories. First time users who want to get an idea of what the blogging world is all about can browse through a number of blogs using these directories. This way they’d get an idea of what these blogging communities are like.
