Affiliate commission – Choosing a revenue option

 By: Theo Swan

When choosing an affiliate program, the commission offered is - obviously - very important. So is the commission type. Should you choose a program that pays you for every visitor you send their way, so called PPC? Or should you go with the option of sharing the revenue for that particular visitor? Fixed commission or a percentage? The options are many, there is no general answer to what is best. It’s up to you to decide where to send your visitors, to experiment, evaluate and finally choose one or a few affiliate programs best suited for your needs.

PPC - Paid per click

Many affiliate programs offer you a - fixed or varied -commission for every visitor you send their way. Often these programs are similar to Google’s Adsense program, namely contextual advertising

The advantages of this are many, but so are the limitations. The main advantage is just the contextual bit, the task of placing relevant ads on every page is gone, and all you need to do is choose what program to join. Another great advantage is – because of the flexible nature of these programs, you will only need to join one program, making it easier to reach the payout threshold. The downside of it all is the revenue. If you can target your visitors, and subsequently what they are looking for, you can make a much larger profit with other types of affiliate programs. But, it WILL require far more work.

PPM – Paid per mille

This is roughly the same as PPC, the difference being you get paid for every visitor viewing the ad, they do not have to click it. Many companies, offering contextual advertising, have this option included in their program. The good part about it is the possibility to get paid while visitors stay on your site, instead of referring them to someone else. This option is most suitable for high traffic web sites - with small quantities of visitors, this rarely adds up to a good profit. It can, however, be a good way of targeting often viewed pages on your site.

PPS – Paid per sale

This type of commission is based on the activities of the visitors you refer to the affiliate website. If you send active visitors, who shop a lot, this can be a goldmine compared to PPC and PPM. The type of commission varies as well. It can be a percentage of the sale, a fixed amount per sale/signup or a combination of both. What to choose is very dependant on your audience, and what category of program you are looking for.

In some cases, often with a recurring commission, the option of sharing the revenue, thus getting a percentage of the total order, rake or what have you, will be far better than choosing a fixed amount per sale. The dynamics of percentage vs. revenue sharing will be looked at more deeply later on.

PPL – Paid per lead

This is roughly the same as PPS, but you get paid for leads instead of sales. This is a fairly uncommon commission method, but it often applies to specific categories of affiliate programs; Insurance companies, financial institutes and other companies with high priced products in competitive markets. If you have a site targeting visitors looking for these kinds of products, this can be a highly interesting revenue model for you.

There are other, less common, alternatives. Many of them are individual, and are mainly for very specific niches, or for experienced affiliates.

7 Free Ways To Improve Web Site Traffic

By: Christine Louise Hohlbaum

You have a solid business plan, you stand behind your product or service, and you have a web site that no one visits. How can you get the word out on a tight budget? Read on!

· Write e-zine articles with a short bio and web link at the end. Many e-zine clearing houses allow you to submit your articles for free. Benefit: You potentially gain more exposure and your web site traffic could easily increase. My favorite e-zine sites: www.ideamarketers.com, http://freezinesite.com/, http://www.ezine-writer.com.au and http://www.family-content.com

· Once your articles have been picked up, approach the webmaster whose web site carries your article. Perhaps he or she would be interested in carrying your product in their on-line shop. Several webmasters added my book to their sites after I asked! Benefit: You have now doubled your exposure with one contact.

· If you have something to tell the press, consider submitting your press release to this free PR service: www.prweb.com You can purchase a highlighted listing with their service for as little as $10. Benefit: It’s an easy way to have your product name come up in search engines. I actually received my first fan e-mail through this service!

· Link your web site to others. Benefit: You can funnel traffic to your site by building on other people’s visitors and vice versa. An added benefit: Your site will come up in search engines more often.

· Post messages on product- or service-related message boards that are topic-related (don’t make your message be an advertisement or you’ll get thrown out!). Benefit: You will pique people’s curiosity (much like an e-zine article can), and they will want to visit your web site. An added benefit: Oftentimes, your message comes up again on search engines, thereby increasing your exposure. Make sure to add your web link in the message. Most boards allow you to do so.

· Join a yahoo discussion group at www.yahoo.com under “Groups.” Make certain that the group contains your target audience. Join in the discussion and add your web link each time. Much like a message board message, you should not make your post be an ad, but a valuable contribution to the topic at hand. Benefit: You’ll make friends while you build traffic!

· Add your URL through this free service: www.submitexpress.com which adds your web site to over 40 top search engines (google, yahoo, exactseek, etc.) for free. Benefit: That’s an obvious one. You are now listed in the Internet’s top “phone books.”

You may not have the time for a weekly or monthly company newsletter. These tips take only a few minutes. They have helped me increase book sales by 33%. Good luck! It may be the only traffic you’ll ever love.

Work At Home Time Management

Are you finding lack of time for your online business becoming more and more evident?

Are you finding it more difficult reserving well-needed time for your children and family?

Well, you are not alone. All too often, many home based business owners (unintentionally) fail to prioritize their time efficiently. I think time is about the most valuable and limited resource that we have.

Balancing our personal and professional lives is indeed quite a challenge. This important task can be accomplished by taking a look at some significant small steps.

Goals

What are your business and professional goals?

Turn your dreams and intentions into reasonable, achievable goals by writing each goal down beginning with the most important and ending with the least important.

Purchase a special journal all your own for this purpose. Keep this journal close by, on your desk at all times.Write down what you want to achieve yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily. Plan long projects by breaking them down into bite-sized pieces and dedicating so much time each day for achieving your goals.

Put Together A Work Routine Schedule And Stick With It

Keep A Business Daily Planner On Your Desk. Prioritize your home business according to specific deadlines. Make a note of tasks that need to be completed daily.

For example: Make a note to do your website updates on Mondays, Make important phone calls on Tuesdays, Do your business research on Wednesdays, and so on.

Carve out a reasonable schedule for yourself and base it around your business needs and goals. The most important thing about a schedule is of course sticking to it. Staying focused and consistent is the key element to achieving success in any home business.

Make Time For Yourself And Your Family

This is the most important issue home based business owners face today. You must reserve special time for yourself and for your family. If you don’t make time for yourself, you run the risk of business burn out. You need time to yourself to feel refreshed, energized, and ready to tackle the next task that needs completing.

Take at least one half hour to a full hour each day solely for yourself. Take a walk, take a drive, take a nap, read a good book, watch a good movie or favorite program, schedule lunch with a friend. This is so important to you and also your business If you have children at home, you need to also involve them in this important time.

Take your little ones to the park, the zoo, out for lunch, anything…just as long as you take this special time just for you and your children. Always take time out for that special bedtime story, helping with homework, making that special breakfast, or just talking and cuddling. Isn’t this the main reason for deciding to work from home…staying home with your kids and spending quality time with them?

Always schedule specific times with your kids, and also with yourself….this will help avoid getting over-stressed and over- worked with your home based business. Children like routine. You will also find that following a routine schedule will make you more productive and successful with your business.

Home Based Business Startup On A Tight Budget

By: Hector Leon

Trying to start a home based business by asking your family and friends to lend you money? Perhaps you may want to give it a second thought and try to come up with a better idea to start your business before getting yourself into debt. Although you may be financially strapped, it surely doesn’t mean that you’re not able to start a business of your own. There are many ideas that you can use to start your business regardless of your financial situation.

Facilitating Service

One of the many ways available to avoid large investments is to stay away from a business that requires you to buy a large amount of products. Instead, begin a business that demands your skills and time. For instance, if you have special gifts and skills in drawing and painting, then try setting up a wall decorating business from home. There are a lot of homeowners with children who would enjoy having their child’s room decorated. On the other side, if you are good at balancing a budget, then you can offer a value assisting others handling their finances. Because of the amount of people with bad credit, you’ll be astonished with the many people that will seek your service.
Using your current resources

Using the tools that you already own, such as personal property, can dramatically help you prevent debt. For example, if are an owner of a big house with enough land, you can remodel your property into a day care for children. Take note of your current surroundings–you can find a large group of people that are seeking child day care at a fair price. Aside from that, attracting custumers to a child care service is not that challenging. As soon as people catch wind of your child care service, people will begin to recommend others to you.

Internet Business

You can find a large number of online businesses that will not require you to make an investment at all. For example, if you are good at advertising, you can offer your services online. The good thing about working as a freelance advertiser is that you can work from any location. As long as you have a computer with internet connection, it will not matter if your working from Barnes and Nobles sipping on a latte. On the other hand, if your skills are limited, you can always decide to join an online affiliate marketing program and earn commissions generated by your site. Most online affiliate marketing programs do not require you to make a large investment to get started. The fantastic thing about these online affiliate programs is their big commissions payout. If your website generates plenty of traffic, then chances are you will generate a large income from these affiliate programs.
